Multilingualism

To complement Penny Milbouer’s post, here is an excerpt from Tore Janson’s book “Speak.” In this excerpt, Mr. Janson discusses multilingualism and the importance and necessity of knowing more than one language.

Hi Elmira,
I don't know exactly what kind of books you'd need, but I suggest you look at basic books on dialects, such as:
Peter Trudgill, Dialects (New York and London: Routledge, 2004).
or
J.K. Chambers and Peter Trudgill, Dialectology (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1980).
or any of the others.
Understanding dialects would be the first step. Then you can look at material on translating subtitles for movies and translating dialects.
